Wear, Corrosion, and Downtime in Chemical Processing
Chemical processing equipment often sees corrosion and abrasion at the same time. HFW helps reliability, maintenance, planning, and procurement teams evaluate rebuild, remanufacturing, and new component manufacturing options for critical process equipment.
HFW works on mixers, agitators, process rolls, industrial pump components, centrifuge parts, feed screws, housings, shafts, and high-value alloy components. Depending on the part, the workflow may include chemical-resistant coatings, corrosion-resistant coatings, wear-resistant coatings, machining, precision grinding, and inspection.
From its Buffalo, New York facility, HFW can serve global customers with one-source manufacturing and rebuild workflows.

HFW 512 and Thermal Spray: 30x Longer Roll Life in Chemical Processing
In the 1980s, a chemical processing customer came to HFW with rolls lasting only two months in service. HFW first improved roll life to 4 to 5 months using standard thermal spray coating processes.
The major improvement came with HFW 512, a proprietary nickel-based alloy thermal spray powder designed around the customer's specific operating needs and applied by HFW using the HVOF thermal spray process. Roll lifespan increased from two months initially to 4 to 5 months with standard thermal spray, and then to 5 to 6 years in service with HFW 512.
With more than 40 years of documented performance data, HFW 512 gives chemical processors a practical way to justify coating investment through reduced downtime, fewer maintenance shutdowns, and lower total cost of ownership.

One-Source Workflow
One-Source Rebuild and Manufacturing Workflow
Chemical processing jobs often involve material, coating, machining, precision grinding, and service-life decisions. HFW coordinates that work inside one ISO 9001:2015 facility.
Rebuild & Remanufacture
Worn housings, shafts, bores, rolls, pump components, and mixer components rebuilt, coated, machined, precision ground, and inspected.
Turnkey Manufacturing
Process rolls, mixer components, pump parts, housings, and custom components manufactured from drawings or developed plans.
Corrosion & Chemical Resistance
Coating selection around process chemistry, corrosion, wear mode, temperature, base material, and finish requirements.
Corrosion & Wear Protection
Analysis of the operating environment to select appropriate coatings or weld overlays for extending equipment life.
Machining & Precision Grinding
CNC machining, ID grinding, cylindrical grinding, honing, and superfinishing for final fits and surface finishes.
Hardfacing & Weld Overlay
Stellite® 6, Hastelloy®, stainless steel, nickel alloys, and weld overlays for severe chemical processing applications.
Coating Selection
Chemical Resistance, Corrosion Resistance, and Wear Protection
The right chemical-resistant coating depends on the base material, process chemistry, temperature, wear pattern, and final surface finish. HFW evaluates those factors before selecting a coating material and application process.
Materials may include HFW 512, ceramics, carbides, and other corrosion-resistant coatings or wear-resistant coatings. Application processes may include HVOF coating, plasma spray coating, weld overlay, or another coating path matched to the component.
In chemical processing, coating performance depends on the full workflow. HFW ties coating selection to machining, precision grinding, surface finish, and inspection requirements so the finished part is ready for service.
When HFW Can Help
- •Short component life caused by corrosion, abrasion, or chemical attack
- •Industrial equipment rebuild where coating, machining, and grinding all affect the outcome
- •Pump, mixer, roll, shaft, housing, or bore damage that requires more than replacement parts
- •New or rebuilt components that need final inspection and documentation before return to service
