Internal Diameter Grinding Services

HFW Industries provides internal diameter (ID) grinding services, holding tolerances as tight as 0.0002 inch on parts from 1-inch to 36-inch ID. ID grinding is a niche within a niche. Few shops can do it well and hold tight tolerances. One of our ID grinding specialists, Peter, has spent roughly a decade focused on this work.

Much of the work that comes through our ID grinding department involves bringing a component back to spec as part of a larger rebuild. However, our team also handles standalone requests. ID grinding is part of our larger grinding department based in Buffalo, NY, that's been doing precision finishing work since 1950.

A shaft has to seat precisely inside a bore, sleeve, or housing, so both surfaces, the shaft's outer diameter and the mating part's inner diameter, need to be ground to match. Get that fit wrong, even slightly, and the equipment may wear out or fail prematurely once it's back in service.
