Yesterday, one of our customers flew in for the day to review several rolls he had shipped in the day before.
His customer, a steel mill, is beginning to run perilously low on their stock of these rolls. HFW will be providing turnkey rebuild services to return these rolls in an expedited manner. Several journal diameters will be machined, thermal spray coated and finished. Two roll bodies will receive similar treatment.
All of this will be done to meet tight deadlines and keep the steel mill running. The mill loses $2,500 per minute the line is down—any unanticipated outage adds up quickly.
This is a great example not only of the value in our one source solutions, but also the power of being face to face. We got everyone involved in this project together, identified the rolls properly and walked through the scope of work for each. We then agreed to an action plan. 45 minutes of face time saved countless email conversations that could have spanned days or weeks. That is unacceptable when the line must be kept running. Credit to our great customer for arranging this.
These kinds of projects, where there is a lot on the line, are the most exciting for us. The anticipation is heightened and everyone seems to be even more dialed in. It is a high performance environment that I really enjoy.
Enough talking, though. It is time for us to get down to work—we have rolls to rebuild!
