March 6, 2024Employee Spotlight: John
By Jack Watson
Today I want to tell you about John.
John has been with HFW Industries, Inc. as a mechanic and general laborer for about a year. In that time he has done everything from run a lathe to clean coolant tanks and repair spray booths. His impact can be felt throughout the shop.
What has drawn attention and respect from everyone at HFW is John’s willingness to not only do the dirty work, but almost seem drawn to it. One of our grinder-hands Chris noted that he has never seen someone as willing as John to crawl under a machine while getting covered in oil and absolutely filthy. When we needed someone to man our blast booth to strip equipment for the power generation industry, John not only stepped up but was thankful for the opportunity.
Mind you, the blast booth is tough work. Not everyone can do it. You’re wearing a full suit, helmet and respirator (you can see John in part of his outfit below) and hold a powerful hose while shooting sand or blast media at the equipment to strip rust, coating and other buildup. Visibility is often reduced and hearing protection is required.
Before John, we had rotated guys in the booth due to the taxing nature of the work. Since John started blasting, he has made it his home. He kicks ass.
I wanted to show John off because guys like him are the backbone of our country. They live in the background, often covered in oil and getting dirtier in one day than most of us will ever be in our entire lives. We all owe guys like John a tremendous amount of gratitude. It is no exaggeration to say that we would not have the lives we do without guys like him keeping the world running.
Thank you, John.
